10s All-Stars

Hollister 10, Aptos 7

LOS GATOS — Several Aptos 10s All-Stars came off the bench and provided clutch hits to spark a six-run fourth inning, giving their team a 7-3 lead. But Hollister went up 8-7 in the bottom half of the inning and tacked on two more runs in the fifth to secure the win in the first round of the Section 5 Tournament at Los Gatos Little League.

"I told them to keep their heads up," Aptos coach Garret LaTorre said of his post-game meeting with his players. "It's our first loss and it's tough for them. They're still young. I also told them it's tough to win a ball game when you can't make plays. We left a lot of outs out there. We battled back when we were down in the beginning and we just couldn't close it out."

LaTorre said more than half his roster is comprised of 9-year-olds.

"They're still learning," he said. "For the most part, we battled back and we did good. I'm still proud of them. They did well. We just gotta make more plays."

Wyatt Graaskamp led Aptos with a pair of hits and run scored.

Aptos' Hunter LaTorre had a hit and scored on Kiran Yager's groundout in the third inning.

Graaskamp, Gavin Guess, Beau Pieracci and Yager had hits and scored runs in Aptos' fourth inning. Cole Miller and drew a walk and scored and Cody Pieracci reached on an error and scored. Yager had the big hit in the frame, a two-out, two run single.

Andrew Ruiz reached base three times and scored three runs for Hollister. Andrew Freitas had the had his team's lone hit in its five-run fourth inning, a two-run triple with two outs.

Hollister drew five of its eight walks in the fourth.

Anthony Espinoza threw five innings for the win and Jaxon Jennings earned the save.

Miles Lee, Ryan Santillian and Graaskamp pitched for Aptos.

Aptos faces Gilroy in an elimination game Friday at 5 p.m. in Los Gatos.
